Computer errors, startup problems, computer suddenly freezes or slows down after you open up a program are some of the common problems that millions of computer users face each day which sometimes lead to frustrations because they don’t even know how to fix it.

Here are some of the Windows XP common problems and simple solution when your computer suddenly stops responding.

1. Occasionally, a program suddenly freezes and you can’t even close that program no matter how many times you’ve clicked that X button. Press and hold ALT + F4 to close that program. If it doesn’t work, try pressing the CTRL + ALT and DEL keys simultaneously to open up the Windows Task Manager. You can also open it by right clicking on the Taskbar and click Task Manager. Under Applications Tab, click the unresponsive program and hit End Task button. Still if it doesn’t work, under Applications Tab, right click the unresponsive program and click Go To Process. It will automatically switch to Process Tab and will highlight the unresponsive program. Click on it and hit the End Process button.

2. The Windows registry is where the computer stores all of its configuration information. It keeps track of every program that is installed in your computer, how your drivers are configured, and how all of the various parts of the system work together in harmony (well, most of the time!) Unfortunately, over time with just simply daily use, the windows registry accumulates corruption that eventually results in random and difficult to diagnose ailments such as error messages, program crashes, mysterious slowdowns and other hiccups, and ultimately even an inaccessible system. To fix this problem, you can try downloading Pitstop optimize software, System Mechanic or any other Registry cleaner to automatically scan your PC for windows registry errors and fix them all in just a single click.

3. There were instances where your computer suddenly starts crushing after you’ve installed a program and you try to remove it but the uninstall program that comes with the installer is now working. Don’t get frustrated because you can still bring back your computer to its running state by performing System Restore to a chosen restore point.

To open Windows System Restore, you can try pressing the Windows Key button on your keyboard, hold it and press R. It’s a shortcut for Run command. Type restore and the restore folder will open where the Windows System Restore program is located. Double click the RSTRUI icon and the system restore program will open up. Or you can click on Start button on the lower left corner of your screen, click All Programs, Accessories, System Tools and System Restore. Click on the next button and a calendar appears. Choose the date where you remember your computer was running smoothly then proceed by clicking the Next button. The System Restore process will begin shortly then after a few moments, it will automatically restart your computer. A message will show up telling your computer was successfully restored to your chosen restore point. There were instance where the System Restore process fails. You can try the System Restore process again and choose another system restore point which is earlier than the once you’ve previously selected. Confirm by clicking on next then hopefully your computer will be restored to its healthy state. If all else fails, the last option is to reformat your hardisk drive. Try to backup your important files if it is still possible and Reformat your hard drive. Install a fresh copy of Windows.
